If I want to fit an oil temp gauge to my bike, where should the sensor go?
There is always a huge debate about that and a difference in philosophies. My take is, oil too cold (or not warm enough)does more damage than oil too hot, thus I have always installed sensors at the oil reservoir - for the CBX: at the oil drain plug.
Let's hear all the other reasons why you should not.. 8)

Thanks Mike. Is there a threaded hole somewhere on the engine already that I can fit a sensor to, or would I use a drain plug adapter with a threaded hole?

That looks nice and tidy. Did you have to drill and tap for that?

Many instruments come with a sensor and many are drain plug sensors. You just replace the stock drain plug.

Yes, I drilled and tapped the crankcase plug. Since it's aluminum, it drills and taps easy. Use alcohol as the drilling fluid for a nice finish.

Of the 40,000 CBX'S made only very small percentage have bigger than stock oil coolers. I'm skeptical a bigger oil cooler does anything to increase engine longevity.
Just my opinion.

It would really depend on where, when, and how you ride, and what other mods might have been made to the bike.

yeah I got caught in some serious traffic congestion, traffic creeping along for about 45 mins, engine wasn't liking it at all...pulled over for a 1/2 hr to let things cool down...my solution, stay out of rush hour traffic in the city core...
CBX a work in progress, still improving...GS1150EFE completed and awaiting modifications.....RD350, remnants in boxes scattered throughout the garage

And in my case it's basically impossible to avoid it altogether, hence the biggest cooler I could reasonably fit on the bike.
