Love the bike hate the clutch.

Post by tubehead »

Is there a billet clutch basket available for our bikes?
Is my original 79 clutch basket worth fixing or should I buy a new prolink basket.
I hate the clutch rattle a lot.So Crude on an otherwise lovely motor.
I will leave no stone unturned to rid my bike of this horrible rattle.

If you can find a 81/82 clutch basket go for it, it will eliminate most of the chatter, make sure you get the sleeve and washers, they are different than the 79 and 80 baskets.

There a couple things to be aware of when you reassemble the basket, there are a couple great threads explaining the process, the shouldered bolts that attach the star shaped plate that go into their own bosses, they have a little raised indicator to mark them.

You can also easily rebuild your basket with a kit from Six Center in NL. Great instructions and it works. Make sure your carbs are perfectly syncd first, however. That will quiet the clutch a bit.
