Lower crankcase
Hi from the North of Scotland....
Just been cleaning out my crankcases before reassembling the engine when I heard a 'clink' and found this washer on the tray in my degreasing bath. The washer measures approximately 21mm OD x 14.5mm ID x 1mm thick. It was whilst I was cleaning the lower crankcase. All that is in the crankcase whilst washing was the gear drum and forks, the oil pump is removed.
Any ideas from anyone, where the washer/spacer is from please? I have drained the degreaser bath and checked for any other washers or items in there but it is clean. I have also looked through all the parts diagrams like the ones on cmsnl.com but can't find anything similar.
Hope someone can help me....
Thanks

Re: Lower crankcase
There are a couple of different thrust washers in the transmission. If this is one of them.. I dunno..

Re: Lower crankcase
That damn near looks like one of the washers that are under the valve spring in the head but without going out to the garage to check it's just a guess, if no one chimes in soon I'll go check but at the moment it's raining buckets.

I was thinking of that also, Jeff. The outer seat looks like that, don't know if it's 21mm OD, thoughJeff Bennetts wrote:That damn near looks like one of the washers that are under the valve spring in the head but without going out to the garage to check it's just a guess, if no one chimes in soon I'll go check but at the moment it's raining buckets.

Re: Lower crankcase
If it is what you say, a valve spring seat, it will be intriguing as I haven't dismantled the head yet. The engine has definitely been stripped before by a previous owner by the amount of gasket sealant in it. And the odd few sheared M6 bolts found whilst disassembling.
Still, adds to the fun.
All the best

...and sometimes they stick quite stubbornly to the cylinder head and it's hard to see if they are there or not. A magnet helps to get them out.Jeff Bennetts wrote:There should be two per hole,,,,,,, that's what she said.
