Clutch balancing

Post by Kool_Biker »

Has anyone ever bothered to statically (or even dynamically) balance their clutch basket?
Is this a worthwhile step to building a great CBX engine?

I know of people who swear at the benefits. But I also know the clutch basket is revolving at a much lower RPM than the crank etc.

Thanks
Aris

Aris,

How do they accomplish the dynamic balancing?

Aris, I've heard of this being beneficial for twins but I doubt there would be much of a benefit on a multi-cylinder production bike, but I guess it couldn't hurt, might as well do the alternator too.

As Jeff mentioned, these guys talk about a Harley clutch.
I have never heard about the process[which of course means nothing]. Aris are you having an engine vibration?

Hi chaps and thanks for your replies.
No, I do not have a vibration issue.
But as I am about to upgrade my 79 clutch to an 81 I bought off eBay, I wonder if this is something worth contemplating.
This becomes especially appropriate as I have recently got access to a workshop with some fine crank balancing equipment (yes!) and some people with lots of know-how, especially on how not to ruin these rare (clutch) baskets.
Oh, and before some normal people jump in to say I am splitting hair here, of course I am. :laughing-rolling: But I love it!
