Countershaft seal

Post by rippper43 »

Do I have to split the cases or can I change it without doing this ? Not sure if that is where it is leaking or if it is coming out of the o'ring on the bolt. any help would be great.

I'm certain I saw a post somewhere where a guy replaced his without splitting the cases. I'm certain of it. However, I have also heard of folks 'swelling' leaky seals with kerosene and forestalling this at least for a while. Who's done this?

Thanks Nils that is just what I needed. I remember now seeing something like this done years ago. I konw there is an o'ring behind the countershaft bolt that holds the sprocket on and mine was not there. If not there, the bolt hole will puke a lot of oil and I am hoping that was/is the problem.
Thanks again for your help.

If that is not it than check your starter oring. I thought my counter shaft seal was leaking but it turns out that the oil was coming from the starter. Changed the oring and no more leak.
