partial engine rebuild

Post by DevonCbx »

Well I guess I'll have to open up the motor. Though I have never done it before, I do have a shop manual. When revving the bike up, I get a considerable amount of grey or blue smoke of the left side. I believe I have issues with spark plug 01 because the bike started running on 5 cyl. and the plug was very oily. Before I pull the motor from the bike, should I perhaps check the compression in the cylinders? What procedures should I take? I did build the bike out of 3 CBX's and the bike ran great until recently that it is starting to blow smoke.
Thanks

Duane, Read the manual "Inspection & Adjustment" 3-15 is very informative. Make sure you check that the valve clearances are good first though.

A compression check or leakdown test never hurts before you start taking stuff apart. You may also have a leaky valve seal.
