Good point. Whomever broke the castings moved the ground to the rear starter mount so I will do the same.

The Marine-Tex has completely cured and is tough stuff. http://www.spookytoms.com/SpookyTom-CBX-80-1-RB16.html
I pulled and wiggled it hard and it held. The top nut that holds the top of the sprocket cover is suspended totally by the epoxy and is solid. I left the epoxy rough before I contour it and spray it aluminum so you can see the before and after. Now that I know it works I will bolt the sprocket cover spacer (packing) backed by heavy foil in place and epoxy in the rest of the missing case down the front of the sprocket.

Looking good!!!

Marine Tex is very tough stuff - I've used it to fix all sorts of 'impossible' things

I had a harmonic balancer that a 'trained' mechanic broke the side out of by forcing it on the crankshaft with an improper key installed. I couldn't get another one prior to my needing to go on a long trip so I filled in the missing hunk with Marine Tex, filed a keyway slot in the inside and carefully shaped the outside round so that it wouldn't shred the oil seal . . . . and forgot about it - It was still on the engine when I sold the car after I got back from Germany more than 30,000 miles later

I bet NASA or the military had something to do with some of the exotic epoxies that are available today. When I was a kid there was only one or two epoxies on the rack and they weren't all that durable. Thanks for suggesting Marine-Tex..................I sound like a commercial.
