Clutch centre nut tool

Post by Graeme McFarlane »

Hi guys,
I have the parts to apply the fix to eliminate the clutch rattle on my 1979 CBX. The problem is I can't get the clutch centre nut off. Can anyone tell me where I can get the special socket to undo the "castellated" nut in the clutch centre?
Thanks
Graeme

Graeme:
Honda used to sell it. I don't think they do anymore. You can make one yourself easily from an old socket. I made a drawing awhile ago, which I will dig out and post.

edit:
Didn't take me as long as I thought it would:

I didn't even make a drawing, I took the right size socket, and an angle grinder with a very thin disc, and had a go at it.
I will post pictures one of these days, I need some sleep now, and the kids are coming tomorrow to celebrate my 50th birthday.
A party that I dodged last Saturday by taking my wife to a hotel in a remote part of the Netherlands. (remote part of the Netherlands: is that at all possible?)

Must have been a real party night. My kids threw a surprise 35th wedding anniversary party for us last night. We were shacked and amazed. Great time.

And yes, I'm on the wrong side of 50 too.

Either garage is too small or we have too many bikes. Or Momma's car needs to go outside.

Do you mean you were 'shocked' at the party? I think the 'shacked' part came later.

Sorry we couldn't make the party, but we knew about it! Happy anniversary again.

hey guys

anybody know of a source here in the US or Canada where a guy can get one of these clutch nut tools? I don't think I have one in the tool box so perhaps I should get one before I pull the clutch cover as I want to change my friction discs.

thx

kent: The original tool came from Honda. Sometimes you see a socket on ebay. Making one yourself is not that big of a deal.
