O ring on oil filter bolt, is it available?

Post by Terry »

Title sz it all. Does Honda still have them? My local dealer went bankrupt so I'll have to find another to order one if still available. Suppose they are?

The little O ring, about the size of a quarter? I think I have an extra filter so I'll take a look. Don't recall anything but the large O ring for the housing...and how many filter changes have I done????

Same here - Both of the needed O rings come with every fliter. Maybe you're leaving the little one inside the filter when you install it?

Don's right. Lots of times I get a new filter (from Honda) the little o ring is inside the filter. Word of advise-whenever doing a filter change, check in the filter for the little o ring. It's a bitch to get off and I only replace it if the old one is brittle. I've never had one leak there.

Terry:
I have a whole bunch if you need one. Like George, I don't change it very often, but one comes with every filter. Yes, they are always inside the filter - at least from Honda.

Hey Dave, how many people out there do you think are running around with an o ring inside their filter?

I never thought about it before, because I guess I always knew it was there even if I didn't use it. Probably about as many people have o-rings still in the filter as have no washer on the filter spring. Land fills are full of CBX (and other Hondas) oil filter washers.

Just so I don't look (too) stupid, I only changed the oil filter housing, not the filter as in an oil and filter change. My old OE housing had some stress cracks around the bolt hole and I figured (that) was why it was seeping around the bolt hole. Maybe its the O ring and the hairline cracks weren't causing the leak after all.

With my last filter from Honda, the small o-ring was a c-clip. It was broken. Good thing I didn't take the old one off the bolt first.

I am running without the washer also. How much of a dilemma is that?

Merry Christmas to all!

the washer keeps the spring from digging into the rubber on the filter. If you change it regularly it shouldn't be any problem. A lot of times when you change the filter, the washer sticks to the old filter. That's why most CBX's don't have the washer. I think all CBX's I've owned except for one didn't have the washer. They're still available. Bikebandit.com has them for $2.89.
