Yet another clutch question......

Post by Phil »

Just cleaned and inspected an 82 clutch I got from Louis to install on my 79, and noticed there was only one thrust washer came with it :? . As most know the 82 uses two thrust washers that are of a different part number than the one thrust washer used in the 79 clutch. I searched about all the clutch threads on the cbx boards and none really answered this question. Can the original 79 thrust washer be used in its original location at the clutch guide or in other words are both the 79 and 82 washers the same thickness? I haven`t pulled it apart yet so can`t compare them for my self.

Phil, I think the 2 Prolink thrust washers are thinner than the early single washer, which is 1mm thick. But I think you can still use it. Make sure you have the right sleeve, though. The early sleeve will not work with the Prolink basket
