Exhaust pipes need new chrome...

Post by BayArchitect »

My pipes (81 CBX) are in perfect shape, with only 3,000 miles on them, except for some rust at the top of the pipes, where they exit the cylinder head. I tried cleaning one pipe, but it is obvious they need to be re-chromed. Does anyone have an exchange program or know of a really good chrome shop that I can mail these to for show-quality plating? In California, chrome shops are practically extinct. I would consider aftermarket pipes, but I haven't found a company that makes quiet, high-quality pipes. If anyone knows better, please inform me. THANKS!

Getting exhausts rechromed is an issue due to the contamination that the pipes leave in chromer's plating tanks.

You should contact TIMS www.timscbx.com. TIMS has had some pipes rechromed in the past and maybe they can help you.

One of the nicest, stock style exhausts is made in Australia by Overlander. Here is a link to some posts that talked about these pipes...........

Hope this helps.
