Piston rings, just checking

Post by CBX1000chris »

Hello all,

I'm about to replace the rings on my bike and ordered OE rings from CMSNL. This may be a stupid question but I'd rather ask a stupid question that make a stupid mistake!

The two upper rings have different markings, one is marked 'RN', the other 'R'. The ring marked 'RN' is lighter in colour and my assumption is this is chroming and that this is the upper ring. I can't see a chamfer on either ring (Service manual P7-6) but I guess the picture may be exaggerated to bring home the point?

Are my assumptions correct?

Thank you in advance,
Chris.

Yes, The RN ring is the top one and the RN goes up. R ring is the second one and the R also goes up.
