Fork cap bolts

Post by 1047 »

Hello everybody, question - I don't use any air in my 82 forks so I'd like to get rid of the air hose and replace the top of the fork cap bolts for plain caps bolts like the 79X. Or has anyone replaced the air hose with bolts. Either way any part numbers, models or advice is always appreciated.

If you just want to get rid of the hose, you can replace the connection tops with the fittings from the 1980 CBX. Part number is 51456-469-003. To make it complete and looking good, you can cap them off with the screw-on top. 51457-469-000
No other modifications required. Most Honda 39mm forks have air caps. I am not aware of a cap for 39mm that is closed, like the 79 fork cap. Not saying that there isn't one.

Thanks for the info but unfortunately the cap p/n 51457-469-000 is no longer sold. Do you know of any alternatives for this or where I might find a plain "top of the fork" bolt/cap. Thanks again

I wouldn't be surprised if Louis has some.

Are we sure the 35mm '80 caps will fit the 39mm Pro-Link forks?

Dave, it is not the actual fork caps but the fittings that screw in with the air connection. The 80 does not have connection hose, so these screw-in air fittings are just short stubs with a cap. They should screw in where the angled fittings of the Prolinks screw in.

OK got it. The valve is still available but not the cap. Guess you'd need a couple of each still since one cap has two holes to plug. Rear shock caps are the same - maybe someone here has a junk shock they'd part out for you.
