Steering Stem Nut

Just putting the stem and yokes back together.
In the 79 manual it has torque value for the top stem nut at 58-87 ft/ lbs.

Is that correct?
Seems like an awful lot to me. :?

That's a big fastener. I'd stick with Soichiro's recommendation myself.

That's the torque for the very top nut and that's correct. It is tightening down on the upper yoke, which seats on the adjuster nut. THAT nut has a specific tightening procedure and final torque for it is approx. 12 ft/lbs.

Ok Thanks, I'll get that tightened down then.

I did follow the procedure for the lower nut, not worried about that one.
