Steering Stem Pinch Bolt

Post by johnod »

Does anyone know the torque value for the lower steering stem pinch bolt?
I have the specs for the top bolt, but cannot find the lower specs in the manual.
Not the fork leg pinch bolts, but the stem itself.
I have a 79.

Thanks

Yes I've seen that, and it is helpful, just doesn't answer that one question. :?

Don't sweat it - just snug it up - it'll never come loose.

If there is not specific torque given, the correct torque is the generic value for that size bolt.

That's what my plan was if no value surfaced, so I guess that's the plan now. :-)

I'm not at a place to access the 79 manual right now, but page 13-41 of the 81 - 82 manual says the 7mm pinch bolt is 9 - 13 Nm (7 - 9 ft lbs).

If I recall right in CBXWORLD forum you can download the whole 79-80 Shop manual or sector basis.

In fact if you're a club member you can also download both manuals here, and they are higher quality scans and the text is all indexed and OCRed making the entire manual(s) text searchable. It's in the club member section.

Interesting. In your original post, you say you need the torque for the lower stem pinch bolt. This is not given in piit's diagram , nor do I see upper pinch bolt(s) with the torque you are quoting.
The upper stem pinch bolt (nut) has a torque of 22-29 lbft in the diagram.
