1982 CBX Prolink - 09 CBR1000RR Front end?

Post by deadbanana0717 »

Hey fellas,

(First and foremost. My apologies to all the stock CBX lovers out there)

I recently purchased a 82 CBX prolink Monoshock.
Im thinking of swapping on CBR 1000RR Front end forks triples and all. I was wondering if anyone knows if this is a direct swap or what the 82 Stem diameter is compared to the 09 Front end.

Would appreciate any advice for my project.

Thanks!

DB

I can't give you a definite answer, but my experience with modern front ends is:

The stem is usually shorter than the CBX stock stem
The CBX stock stem is thinner, the bearings do not work on modern stems. Using the CBX stem in the modern triple tree may be inevitable.
Make sure the increased distance between upper and lower still allows for mounting on the forks. Could be a problem on some USD forks where the oute tubes taper down.
Modern front ends are significantly shorter and in addition take a smaller wheel which totally upsets the bike's geometry. Changes on the rear are necessary.
Critical thing to watch then is ground clearance.

Just a few things to consider.

Hey EMS, Im just reading my old posts... Thanks again for the reply. It makes much more sense now that I have gone out and taken some measurements.
