79 CBX SWINGARM

Post by twinegar »

I had some play in the swingarm on my 79 CBX so I ordered in new bushings and set about disassembly. Once I got it off I realized that someone had already replaced the plastic bushings with pin roller ones. There is play between the swingarm bolt and the center pipe and it looks like the bolt might be the wrong one because there isn't a thicker diameter area at each end which accounts for the play. I pulled the bolt off of my dead CBX and it had the high area so I installed it and eliminated the play. Are you supposed to buy the bearing and bolt set or can you just buy the bolt? Are the bolts supposed to wear out?

Needle roller bearings are not ideal ( although often installed) for swinging arm duty, bronze bushings are better for this application...

What about the mounting bolt? Does anyone just sell the bolt? When the bolt is torqued to specs does the center tube still move or is it locked in place?
Thanks.

Sorry twin, can't help you there as I removed my stock arm years ago. I'm sure some one else will advise though...
