80 CBX SHOCKS

Just installed a set of 80 X shocks on my 79. I can't find any info on setting them so is there a website? What is the lever under the bottom U mount?

I can't find instructions on setting them up. I had them set at #1 on top rebound dampener, #1 on the bottom lever compression dampener and the lowest setting on the springs and it nearly shook my fillings out. Is #1 setting on top and bottom the softest setting?

On the settings, I can tell you I am long, long way from the smallest guy ....actually the fattest...so my settings were.

Top Ring: One side at highest number. Other side at second highest number

Spring: Both sides one setting down from highest spring compression.

Bottom: Both sides set on 2.

You have one more upgrade path using Honda shocks....the 1100f shock.... so if the 80 shock does not work out or needs replacing in the future this could be an option .

Thanks. I am thinking of going with the 79 CB750n shocks which are the same as the 79 X. I took off the Progressive shocks to install the 80's so it would at least be semi-oem so maybe I messed up. I weigh about 180 so setting the 80's from top to bottom at 1 - 1 - 1 should be the softest, right? There is no indication of leaks and they are in real nice shape.

I have the 1100F shocks on my '79 and I've been playing with them (largely not knowing exactly what I was doing) so this is a real education for me. I'm printing and pasting these pages into my shop manual
