Drive chain and sprockets suggestions.

Time for new chain and sprockets, recommendations? Places to buy? I see the rear sprocket seems readily available, but haven't seen the front listed. Also see chains described by displacement, does an '82 CBX equate to an '03 1000cc chain? Thanks!

If you go to the website www.sprocketspecialists.com,they list a steel countershaft sprocket for the 80-82 models that use the 530 o-ring chain and they also have a wide selection of steel & aluminum rear sprockets.I have done business with them in the past and have had good results.
Chain---use a DID or RK hi-quality o-ring chain,it costs a bit more than the 630 chain but it sure smooths out a bike that used a 630 chain kit.See what that webiste has to offer,you can order online too.

any ideas as of this date where is the best place to purchase quality sprockets and chain for a pro-link? i would like to maintain the stock gearing and the look of the rear sprocket. any suggestions who sells quality stuff for reasonable prices?

I'll bring this up again - don't forget your local dealers, or local small independent repair shops. I buy all this kind of stuff from them locally. Almost as good price-wise, no shipping charges and if there's a problem, you can return easily. Oh, and did I mention that you are supporting you local businesses and economy. For example, I bought a top-of-the-line RK X-ring chain for the black '80 eariler this year for a little over $100 from my local Honda dealer.

I bought a couple of RK 530XSOZ1 chains on-line for $90 ea. That might have been a pricing error on their listing.
Went to local dealer as I needed one more chain right away, and their price surprised the heck outta me ($107 including my parts discount), and they had it in stock.

BTW, interesting to see posts from Glenn (and Mark) from back in 2003.

I have a local dealer that I deal with all the time and we've develped a mutual respect.

After all is said and done with a purchase, it is comforting to know that if I'm unhappy with how it went down, there's someone that I can go to and look at and talk to.

The web is wonderful but that is rarely the case. You always get a different person, or phone tree or an excuse and an opportunity to return a part at my expense. Don't get me wrong I've encountered many pleasant web transactions, BUT. I'd much rather deal with a local that values me cause I value him.

Local dealers and private shops! Thanks for being there, but remember. IT IS A TWO WAY STREET. My money works everywhere.

As Dave said, i will bring this up again...
I would love to support my local shop, i would love to support my local Honda dealer, I would love to support a Canadian on-line dealer BUT the local shop wanted $172.00, local Honda shop wanted $150.00 and that included my 15% frequent user discount and the Canadian on-line dealer wanted $160.00.
Motorcycle Superstore was $97.00 free shipping... too big a savings to pass up.

Steve, thats a big saving,, I would have done the same thing.

We all have to realistic when the margin is wide, and the procuct is the same and the time frame and handling charges still make it a deal, then that source gets the money. Hopefully any issues that can arrise can be dealt with, without a bunch of muss and fuss.
