You wouldn't happen to have photos of these would you please? Thanks
Courtesy of CMSNL. The part is No 13 in the diagram. I don't think it is absolutely necessary. I have a 1980 that runs fine without it.

Chris, if you use the JT padded sprocket you don't need the guide washer
shown above. I's likely that it wouldn't fit anyway.

There are two more parts in addition to the steel washer. They are shown on the chain fiche. All '80-'82 CBXs came with these parts and a 530 chain.

Chris claims the padded sprocket hits the case when installed and I think it would. Just use the correct parts.

Item 24 in the top diagram is that not just the bearing and sealing washer in the crankcases?

Another thought occurs to me, the 530 rear sprocket is thinner than the 630 one hence the 530 chain will sit slightly closer to the rear wheel hub and therefore I have a concern over the alignment with the front sprocket, I need to make some accurate measurements to be sure about this - I'm worried about alignment here. The 630 front sprocket is flat one on side and flanged on the other, the flat side goes on the inside almost against the crankcase but I can't help but wonder if the new sprockets will align perfectly.

The JT front sprocket I am looking is now without cushioning - the JTF 1340 18 teeth

This is not hard - the '80-'82 CBX used 530 chain and sprockets. They are absolutely bolt-on to the '79 without any agonizing over what fits and what does not. The correct chain length for the 530 chain on the '79-'80 with 18/42 sprockets is 102 pins. If you get the correct parts, they will bolt right on.

A question for those of you who have ridden a CBX with and
and without the rubber cushion. Does it feel different?
Less chain noise or vibration? What was the intended
purpose of the rubber cushion?

It was most certainly to reduce chain noise. Who can say if it did? My '79 is quieter after the conversion, but the old 630 was shot and a new 530 may well have been quieter on it's own.
