Exhaust Head Pipe Dia

Post by jt »

Guys, What OD are the 6 into 6 head pipes from Pipemasters or Denco's.
Failing that what OD to use for head pipes?

The circumference on my stainless Pipemasters is 4 inches - Dividing that by Pii gives you an outside diameter of 1 1/4 inch. Inside is probably between 1 1/16th to 1 1/8th

Could be they're metric . . . . I could ask Peter if you need to know *exactly*

Looking at Don's measurements and trying to translate them to metric, the pipes are probably 32mm OD.
I will measure mine too tonight.

On my Denco system the pipe itself is 35mm and it has a flared lip the meets the block and it measures 40mm.

OD stock 1.37" OD denco 1.37" (I have both) ID stock 1.07" and the denco is considerably larger in ID because the stock is dual wall pipe and the denco and most all other aftermarket pipes are not. I don't know what ID the denco's are because they are on my bike but when they were off I compared them visually against the stock and they were larger ID.

The chrome Pipemasters I have are 33mm OD. They have a step to a larger 35mm just about 1 inch from the top to hold the shells for the mounting clamps. The 422 stock exhausts have a 35mm OD on the headers.

The stainless ones are constructed similarly

I suspect both the chrome and the stainless are about the same size, as over the years Peter has sold several variations of the Pipemasters. Some with just stainless mufflers and the collectors and head pipes in chrome, some with both stainless mufflers and collectors and then some which are all stainless . . . . I *think* the pieces interchange

That said, my stainless headers fit fairly loosely into the collectors and I wrapped the ends of the head pipes with 2 or 3 wraps of aluminum heating duct tape which keeps them from leaking - Maybe the chrome ones fit tight enough without anything wrapped around them . . . . if so, they're probably 1mm larger

Thanks guys, that was the info I was looking for, and I like the tip on adding a wrap or two of the tape for better sealing.

Thanks
