Exhaust System Screw/What Size

Post by ICOA #4334/Jerry »

Can anyone tell me what is the correct size screw for the heat shield hold down at the end where the 3 pipes go into the collector.
I need the correct thread pitch and bolt length.
Thanks

Can anybody give me help on verifying marks on the factory 79 exhaust.
I just purchased a set ($400) :D :D , and noticed that they say Sankei 2040
on one side, and HM 422 on the backside. Just wondered if this is all
correct, since I don't have a stock exhaust on my bike to look at. The
pipes I bought need a little cleaning and shining, but will look great  once
they are done. Thanks for any information on this topic

79 Exhausts

Post by EMS »

422 is the "product code" for the 1979 CBX. All parts that were FIRST USED on the 1979 CBX have the -422- in the part-number. The original Honda exhausts were stamped HMXXX for each model. The 1980 CBX had -469- product code. The 80 exhaust would show a HM469 stamp. Sankei also sold some exhausts through other channels and you may find an exhaust that would not show the Honda mark. I don't think they ever did that with the CBX exhaust, though.

Thanks Terry and EMS, I had a feeling that they were the right pipes.
I had recently discovered the "product code" 422 signifying the 79 CBX.
Just went through the CBX Gold Portfolio book and read about "Eleven
Second CBX", which discussed the change to the 469 and later the
469A advancer. Atleast I know what people are talking about when on
that subject. The part that confused me was the "Sankei 2040". Thanks
for the reply

Thanks Mark
That is exactly what I needed for my stock '79 exhaust.
