OK, many thanks - yes a nice feature when you understand how it works!

Herdygerdy and I have now exchanged PM's...

Can someone explain in basic English where the relay wires into? I have limited ability in reading the schematic and want to make sure I get it right.
I ordered the Panasonic relay
pin 30 goes to the battery box through a dedicated 20-30amp fuse ?
pin 85 grounds to the frame ?
pin 86 yellow/red from the kill switch
pin 87 to +ve at the coil where the black/white wire is?
Any help would be great. Thanks in advance.

Do a couple of searches Lash. Tony Herd (Herdygerdy) detailed this I think. Worthwhile project, I did it too, but not as elegantly as Tony.

I have been doing searches all day on the net and have found most of the info. Also tried pm to Herdygerdy but no reply yet. I think the only question I have left to answer is do I split the wire going to the coils into 3, one connection for each coil or just the one wire to one of the coils and they will all be powered the same ?

Good man re the searches. Stock coils or Dyna? If it's Dyna, just make two short wires of the same gauge with ring terminals, jump the power over to them.

P.S. I meant search this site. Search works really well here. Try this one too, just for fun. I set this up several years ago, I'd be curious how well you find it working:

Use this search string: CBX coil power relay

Well it all works now! I had built it correctly and had everything hooked up ok but was trying to use the wrong coil connection. Tony explained how the whole thing works so now I not only have a bike that runs, but I understand why. This forum is a great thing! Thanks again Tony!!

Hi guys I have had a bit of trouble the last few months with my 79 carbs gone thru then the alternator locked up . I installed new bearings and cleaned it . But it was not running right #2 was cold tried mixture no luck. Then #5 went cold could only get it to run with quick start . Then it would die . I started to check the ignition and found no spark at the pulse generator on all cylinders only get 1v at pulse gen . I have 12v at the green and black at the igniters so I'm stumped or all three igniters got fried.

Maybe I need to check the fairing install .i may have a bad connection at kill switch but tha doesn't explain the 12v at the igniters . Could have fried the rectifier checked it after installing alternator and got13.5 v at the bat can't check it now as can't get it running .

Check the spark at the plugs first. 2 and 5 are together, so that could be a bad pulser or bad coil or bad spark unit. Work your way back from the plugs.
