CBX750f '84 Irish /UK model spark plug lead

Post by inline_v »

I have been told that the leads for this bike aren't made anymore. So what do I do ?
The closest I can find are these and come in at €50 / us$69 ( including delivery) each
They look identical in the picture but the model is not exactly correct.

I am waiting to hear back from breakers yards but I am not keen on using old ones.

I saw in another post someone reccomended putting NKG caps onto the original cable and this might suit me but what cap ?
The cable is fine the cap was not holding the plug properly.

thanks in advance !

CMS in the Netherlands is a great source for NLA Honda parts - as long as they have them. Prices are for sure not much higher than what you would have to pay at Honda - if they still had them.
You can always explore aftermarket leads or new ones from Honda from a different bike. The plug caps are a different story. I don't know what would fit a CBX750, but I would assume any of the 4-cylinder CBX models CBX550 or 650 would be similar. If you have access to U.S. parts, try the 750 Nighthawk, engine is basically the same.

I have found this cable using their search but it does not specifically show the CBX750f in the list of compatible bike.
Is it ok ?

Like it has been said before, the collective wisdom about the CBX750F and its technical details is sparse on this forum, because here we all are about the CBX (1000) and most of the forum members are from the U.S. and the CBX750F was not sold here.
First, let me say, I have no idea what a CBX750P is. I assume you have a CBX750F that was sold in Europe from 1984 to 1986 ( in some countries through 1989)!? . The CBX750F was the third inline-4 750cc variation and the second generation DOHC.This bike was based on the CBX650E which had been introduced a year before and was virtually identical to the CB650 Nighthawk, which was sold in the U.S. together with its smaller CB550 sibling.
Main reason for Honda bringing out the CBX750F in Europe was the questionable reliability of the VF750F V-four which started to hurt Honda's competitive position. Back then, they still cared about that.
The main differences between the 650 and 750 powerplant were stronger engine cases, larger valves, 67x53mm bore and stroke and 91hp. The 39mm front forks carried clip-on handlebars which are sometimes adapted to CBX Prolink forks in lieu of "Sport Kit" bars that did not exist for that model. CBX750 oil coolers are also a common modification for the CBX1000.
Because of the import tariff for bikes of 750cc and larger in the U.S. Honda offered the CB700SC Nighthawk from 1984 to 1986. the motor was identical to the CBX750F except for the shorter stroke of 49.4mm to achieve a 696cc displacement.
In addition, the Nighthawk also featured shaft drive instead of a chain and had twin shocks instead of the Prolink rear suspension.
The CB750 Nighthawk that was introduced in the U.S. in 1991 was still based on the European CBX750F, but was a stripped down, less expensive variant. And the engine continued to live on in the 1993 CB750 Seven Fifty, albeit with almost 20hp less.

Among all these bikes mentioned, you should be able to find something in your hunt for spark plug caps and cables.

Great stuff and very interesting too. thanks.

The cbx750p is the closest bike name I could find that had plug caps available.
Here under cbx750 they only list 750p

Aha! Looks like the "p" stands for "Police". 8) The Police-spec version of the CBX750.

I was in a bike shop was told I can use a regular cap with a resistor and it won't make a difference.

DO you think this is ok to do ?

If anyone is interested I used the Cap with a resistor and it seems to be running fine. Only drove at town speeds for 45 mins.
