Post by loft1 »

Hello there,
which battery is the best for high cranking the CBX in your opinion? I have to change mine, but i'm so lost in the various choices on the web

My suggestion is be certain it is an AGM type. I've used that in both my 82 and my Suzuki. Always on a Battery Tender when not riding. 4 or 5 years old, now and still crank about 50% better than a standard lead-acid. (The kind you fill) Use a GoldWing size.

Yup, GoldWing battery put on battery tender every winter. My last battery lasted 6 years.
CBX a work in progress, still improving...GS1150EFE completed and awaiting modifications.....RD350, remnants in boxes scattered throughout the garage

I highly recommend these AGM batteries. Free shipping, no core charge. Probably made by DEKA, relabeled.

I have the same battery in my '79, now on its seventh year with no issues.

Just an fyi: I source my AGM batteries from Chrome Battery at $60 ish. [Free shipping, no core, 2 to 4 days delivery.] One in my X and one in the old Suz. Both at 5 plus years and they sit in the bikes a Michigan garage all Winter. (With Battery Tender.)

I'm needing one right now for the #14 CBX build-
Although those intrigue me by the lower price, the CCA is much lower and the 205mm length is 5mm longer (my "tray" for this bike is from a GL and is semi-ridged) than the "Big Crank" that I've used previously. Might not be a big deal for others but, the other thing I don't like is that they're imported, probably China. The "Big Crank" at Battery Mart is made in the USA. Most likely DEKA made in Pennsylvania.

Additionally, the ETX-18L fits CBX's without the blow molded spacer, same price. Here:
https://www.batterymart.com/p-Big-Crank ... ttery.html

After weighing all the variables, I'm still going with the "Big Crank" for twice the price.

I appreciate the tip.

Basically all batteries specified for the early 80s Goldwings fill the CBX battery compartment of the CBX without the spacer. I used to buy AGM batteries from WESTCO and still have them in all my CBXes for quite afew years now.. Seems like WESTCO batteries are hard to find now. Couldn't get one for one of my BMWs last year. Had a bad experience with Big Crank for my CB1100R. Didn't last 2 years.

I expect you are right about the Chrome source, JR. Had not checked that. Definitely, it has to fit. Good feedback. Danke,
