Many thanks Sasha!. I am very grateful for your reply/input!, have had current cbx since 90' ,first one in 85, but always interested in ways to subtly improve without losing original appearance!.
Cheers Ian.

Was this an actual "plug in replacement" as their website states? ...connections and size of unit fit well in original location?

Thanks

It plugs right in. Shape of it is slightly different but unnoticeable once installed. If I remember correctly, one of the screw holes didn't line up properly. I'll take a picture and will post it here

Here it is. It's not that holes were not matching its that i didn't have second bolt on mine. Otherwise it is slightly different shape than the original and a bit thicker because it also has cooling fins on the back but it fits right in and it looks almost the same. The reason i chose this one is that it has thermo protection in the case it overheats to protect the electronics. It was $99 it is local california company.

Thanks for the info and the pics. Having overheated this past summer and dodged the bullet with any further electrical damage, this is definitely on my list now. Glad to know it is plug and play and that it will not interfere with the side cover.

When stator and/or rotor go bad, they usually kill the regulator/rectifier as well as it overheats. This regulator/rectifier protects itself from that.
This is the only difference from the original one. IN addition it has newer electronics and better heat sink.
It may or may not be better than the original one but those few extra features alone are good enough to buy it over the oem style.
You can read about it on their web site
