Idle Mixture screw tip broken off

Post by jnnngs »

There's always one...

Having finished stripping the carbs, everything has gone OK except for two issues with the Idle Mixture screws:
- On one carb (#1), the idle mixture screw was badly chewed up, so will have to drill that one out.
- More seriously, on another (#6) the mixture screw came out OK, but left the tip in the carb body!

So, the question is how do I remove the broken tip? It is sitting slightly proud in the carb body, but with light pressure it doesn't move.

Suggestions on what to do next welcomed.

First, heat up the protruding tip and it will tap out. Second, take a Dremmel with a small router bit and carve yourself a straight screwdriver slot in the buggered up one. Then apply lots of heat (propane torch) and it will screw right out.

Dave - just so I am clear. For the protruding tip, I heat up that area and then tap it back into the body? (as opposed to coming at it from the passage where you screw the air screw itself into and tapping it out from that side). Hope that makes sense!

Yes, tap it down through - it won't come up through - it's tapered.

OK - all sorted. All jets etc. successfully removed!

Thanks for the advice.
