The best money i ever spent in CBX ownership was buying the valve adjustment and carb cleaning books from Mike Nixon.

If you are going to be in the old classic motorcycle fettling game for the long haul, thoroughly recommend getting one of the Carbtune Pro kits to properly synchronise the carbs. You can easily do the CBX with a 4x way unit.

It never ceases to amaze me how much a CBX engine settles right down into a quiet (ish) purr as they are adjusted. Makes it almost a pleasure, esp. with the right carb synch. adjuster tools to do the job.
Also, when setting valve clearances, always set the clearance to the wider end of the range. By so doing, this allows the valve head more time "at rest" on the valve seat, thereby giving more time for heat from the valve head to dissipate into the head and be carried away by oil & air. It is particularly important for the much hotter exhaust valves.
Set them too tight in the hope of a quieter engine and a valve rebuild WILL be in your future.
