Auto Fuel Shut-off Valve repair kit info

Post by cross »

Maybe someone already has figured this out but i wanted to share with everyone,

I bought auto fuel shut-off valve rebuilt kit on Ebay and the diaphragms are exactly the same like for my '82 CBX.
It comes with both diaphragms, spring and an "O" ring (which we do not need).
Today i replaced my valve diaphragms and it works as it should.

It is K&L Brand, part number 18-5018
It is listed for Honda Valkyrie 97-03, petcock kit.
Honda Valkyrie has this valve attached to the side of the petcock.

Hi, I bought the kit but it looks nothing like the parts I need, are you sure you have an actual CBX valve? My valve is place on the carburettor assembly and has 3 screws, a middle piece, 2 diaphragms, a spring and a tupe of plastic washer as well, non of the Valkyrie parts were really close.

I think the '82 vacuum valve might be different from the '80-'81 valve. I have both here and they are certainly different shape, with probably different internals.

The 1979 retrofit valve was different from the 80/81/82. Remember, 80/81/82 has two fuel lines to the carbs.
And the 1982 in addition has a different part-number. Don't know what the difference is.
So, you have a 79, and 80/81 and an 1982 valve.

I think, however, the retro '79 and the '80-'81 valves all had the same diaphragm. The '82 has a different one, maybe.

Mine has two fuel lines to the carbs, a vaccuum line and a vent line. Would really appreciate if someone could tell me where to find a repair kit, or another CBX original shut off valve that is working. :text-feedback:

This is what it looks like.
What i did was i searched Ebay for petcock repair kits and when i found the ones that looked like the ones that i had, i measured diameter of my diaphragms and asked sellers if they would measure their and send you pictures of both sides of the diaphragms.
Some are not willing to do so but some will.
All you need are the rubber parts, rest don't matter
Good luck!

Ok Sascha,
So who can rule on what we have? They clearly different. And does anybody know where to get new parts for mine? I do have a Honda manual showing the part I have, I'm guessing it is the retro fit version.

My bike is '82 and I think I stated that into original post.
Take my suggestion and search on ebay for "honda" pet cock or auto shut off valve repair kit.
Compare pictures to what you have and when you find what looks like what you have, contact the seller and ask to do few measurements on the rubber parts (diaphragms) and see if it matches yours.
That's the way I did.
But if you mention that you need it for cbx, they will most likely reply that it will not fit.
Alternatively, you may be able to find the whole valve like mine and get the repair kit.

If you have a 1979 CBX and only one line running fuel from the valve to the carburetor, you have a retrofit version. Or a really late 1979 model factory installed one - January of 1979 production date or later.

We're really not talking about the retro one - it has the same internals as the '80-'81 valve. The '82 valve is clearly different altogether, with different internals. The 2 '82 valves I have look like the one pictured, but I never had them apart to see the difference in the diaphragm - which there is. Apparently there is a repair kit for the '82 available, but none known for the earlier ones.

I couldn't find repair kit for my valve.
I've asked here and searched online but couldn't find it.
