'79 carbs on an '81?

I had no difficulty in getting the '79 carbs to fit in the '81 airbox manifolds after FINALLY getting the '79 carbs into the '81 engine manifolds.
Thanks to all that offered an opinion.

Anyway. Carbs...This discussion prompted me to check my parts stash for the carbs that I have accumulated over the years. I came up with 6 sets of VB60 (79) 4 sets of VB61 (79 Euro), 2 sets of VB62 (80) and 2 sets of VB64 (81/82), a total of 14 sets. They are all complete and in good condition ( Cleaning only) Considering what our professionals currently ask for a set on ebay....If I would sell them all at the price of comparable sets, I would have the money for a real nice condition CBX....

Just figured I'd ad my .08 cents. I have a '79 air box on my '82 with the late boots. On my old '81 beater/work bike years back I couldn't get the carbs. on when doing a motor switch due to hard boots. A short piece of 2X4 and a sledge & zip Zap they went right in the hard boots. Maybe not the best idea for your nice X.

Another old trick is to boil the rubber connectors in vegetable oil. That usually makes them softer and pliable. JMHO Charlie

Aaaah...boiling vegetable oil, long pointy forks with a piece of meat on them....
