Another carb question on initial take off

Post by AshishNJ »

It is a 79. Stock with #38 jet other are stock.
Idles all day long so beautiful, runs great. Only issue is at taking off from stand still. It slightly burbles ( not really choking) and I have to add a little throttle . Once it at 2k rpm it is fine.
My mixture is at 2 1/4 turns. Am I too rich ?

From all the reading I’ve done here it never supposed to be more than two turns out.
My guess is the slight extra fuel that the 38 provides combined with extra fuel from the off idle ports with the mixture screw out 21/4 turns, combined with an accelerator pump shot is giving you a momentary over rich mixture.
That’s just a guess though....

Small steps, indeed. However, with the larger jets, I would think that 1 3/4 would be good. We'll wait for the guru, Dave, to reply with some good info.
