Vent line where does it go
Where does this vent tube go. I have to keep it higher than the fuel level in the tank to keep it from running all over. This is off an 81 model project that has been sitting outside for almost 20 years. Good thing is she running again.

Re: Vent line where does it go
just a guess (and probably wrong) because I don't have an 81...does it connect to the petcock for the vacuum?
CBX a work in progress, still improving...GS1150EFE completed and awaiting modifications.....RD350, remnants in boxes scattered throughout the garage

Re: Vent line where does it go
I beleive it is a vent. There should not be gas on that side of the diaphragm. Your diaphragm is bad and they are no longer available. You can eliminate that fuel automatic shutoff all together but make sure you shut gas off manually.

Yes, there is an illustration I found that said it was a vent, can I simply plug it off? Thanks Terry

Re: Vent line where does it go
There should be no fuel coming out the vent. You cannot plug it off, but with a leaking diaphragm, I suppose it doesn't matter. Terry described what you need to do - just eliminate the valve altogether. You can take it apart to verify a bad diaphragm, but not worth the trouble. BTW, the vent hose should be over 2 feet long and it routes over the right side of the air chamber and inside the frame rail to where all the other hoses drain to.

A bit more info on the shut off valve from Mike Nixon.

Re: Vent line where does it go
Sparky,
For my '82, I just pulled the vacuum actuator line off the valve and stuck an appropriately sized screw/bolt into it with some Permatex in the screw threads. Then, route the fuel line from the valve directly to the carbs. Just remember to turn the valve 'OFF' whenever you shutdown -- especially if you park on the sidestand. There is a built-in automatic reminder to turn it 'ON'. The reminder kicks in after about 1/2 to 1 mile.
