Choke fast idle adjustment

Post by cross »

My choke engages but I do not have fast idle once engaged which is something that I misadjusted last year when I cleaned the carbs the first time.
Acording to the manual it states the following:
"Open choke, close throttle and check clearance"
I'm understanding this as, "fully engage choke and don't touch the throttle", am I right?
There was only 0.3mm of gap so I adjusted it this time to have 0.7mm. Range should be 0.7-1.0mm

Thank you

Don't take my word for it, but I think you have that wrong. Wait till one of the carburetor experts comes to give you the definitive answer. I am not looking at the book right now, so I could be misunderstanding what you are asking. But, to me, opening the choke means to fully disengage it. The choke plates should be fully open. The gap you are measuring is there to make sure the throttle is not held open by the choke linkage when the choke is open. I think most people make that gap even smaller than specified, as long as there is just a very small gap.

Yes, that does make sense. Open/closed probably refers to the position of the butterflies.
Hopefully someone will chime in

Just got email from Mike Nixon confirming that.
Choke relaxed/butterflies open and throttle closed/butterflies closed and idle knob completely backed out until it no longer touches anything. He suggested gap of 0.5mm

Good 'stuff', all. That's the type of information that helps many folks out there.
