Should the engine run very rough if you take the air cleaners completely off? Or put on air pods? I do have a DG pipe, and 12 to one pistons. Or am I barking up the wrong tree?

Has anyone else cut the bottom completely out of a rusty tank to do a restor like I did?

Welcome to the site.
Never seen a CBX tank restored in that fashion. If it had holes, some welding and a Por-15 kit are as aggressive a repair as i have seen.
If you have a big engine, 6-1 pipe and pods, a DynaJet Stage 3 Kit is in your future.

yea thought so, I cut the bottom out, shined it up inside to bare metal, then welded it back togeather. Think I'll write an article about it for the club to publish. This tank had already had two liners poured in becouse of rust & then sat for ten years w gasoline in it, what a mess!

think I'll put the air cleaner back togeather & see if it runs better before I go for a stage 3. Question, do you really have to tilt the engine to install the air chamber & cleaner?

Jetting must be changed to use pods. If you have the stock airbox, I would certainly go back to that providing the carb jetting is indeed stock. Yes, you have to tilt the engine to do the stock install. No shortcuts here. But make sure your carbs are clean or you will be doing the job again.
