Whoever does own that bike has mad skills, is there any chance it’s stock late model bodywork that’s been customized by the owner or builder?

Absolutely stunning!

For the tailpiece to blend into the prolink grab handles in that way it has to have been fabricated from scratch or perhaps using a donor tailpiece as a starting point.

It changes the bikes lines considerably and you have to look twice to work out which model it is. Well done whoever made it, the least favourite part of my prolink is the rear mudguard so i am jealous :-)

I've seen late model CBX's with what looked like Honda CB750F-900F tail piece modified to fit before, my guess, started out with one of those, removed the piece around the taillight (held on by screws) and modded to that style. Just have to decide on what tail light to use.

There are quite a few really tasty details, including the modified footrest plates, Those are just exquisite, and clearly derived from the stockers.

I noticed that right away too Nils, that was a popular mod back in the day, looks good IMHO.

Yeah, that’s really well done there, looks gorgeous, and not so ridiculous to do as the full windowing a friend just did for me. The bike has a lot of great touches.

Did your friend use a CNC machine by any chance?

Thanks for the link, a couple more shots there. Damn shame there is nothing about the owner or build, I’d like to know more about it.

Nope, manual mill. I’m certain it was a fiddly tedious project that way too.

The tailpiece looks like it was modified from a CB1100R part. They make retro pieces for these bikes and they are plentiful, so there is no issue with modifying an expensive and rare original.
I remember Rich Gerhold had the footpeg plates of one of his bikes (funny enough, it was yellow also) cut to appear like a lattice design. If you look at the back of the part, you can see how this can be done by removing all the low sitting areas and just leaving the brace areas.
