81 Prolink Sports
Hi Guys
Love my Honda's, I purchased an imported 1981 CBX Prolink last year, it did have all the fairing an paniers etc, but I don't like that look, so went the Sports bike look attached is the finished product, just waiting for a monoshock to arrive, as the original will not hold air anymore.

Nice looking bike, Stevo.
Looks like you kept the tall North American handlebars.
What pipes are those?

Those look like Marvings. He might find a Pro-Link sports kit over there!

VERY nice!! You do good work, Stevo. And, you should be quite happy with the ride and handling after you install the new mono-shock. Typically beats the snot out of the air bag. If you have not done the forks, I might suggest Race Tech emulator valves. Dos make a difference.

Re: 81 Prolink Sports
Bike was imported from the US, exhaust is new Marving, very quite, you can see where the header pipes join the mufflers there is some silver paint, I think they welded the already chromed parts together and then painted the weld, not sure why they would do it that way, spoils the look a bit, it did have a set of stainless Supertrapp but had more dents than a 2nd hand Dartboard. New Hagon monoshock is now on, big improvement. I did overhaul the front forks, but just a clean out and new seals, seem fine at the moment.

Re: 81 Prolink Sports
Have you got the info/model of the Hagon shock?
A lot of us have been happy with the Progressive 465 upgrade.

Agreed, this looks great. Those Pro-Link bikes do clean up OK. :)Larry Zimmer wrote:VERY nice!! You do good work, Stevo. I also agree that RT cartridge emulators make a difference - a very significant difference in my experience using them on 2 other damping-rod fork bikes. However, despite being the best change you can make to the front end for the money, they're something of a half-measure. If budget allows, full cartridge internals are definitely better unless you're able to live your life on perfectly smooth pavement all the time. There are lots of cartridge internal swaps for the 39mm Showa forks as Harley has been using them on almost every kind of bike for something like 30 years. I am very happy with my AK-20 internals and the rebuild work done by Traxxion Dynamics, but there are other options, too.
I started a thread about this about a year ago but it kind of hit a dead end. Still, there's some good info in there for those who are interested.

If you look at a stock exhaust, Honda did the same thing on the collectors.Stevo wrote: you can see where the header pipes join the mufflers there is some silver paint, I think they welded the already chromed parts together and then painted the weld,

Re: 81 Prolink Sports
I have the very first Ikon 3610 bolted up to my own ProLink now, but it will be a couple of weeks before the bike is back together and rolling under its own power, so it is still a prototype of sorts. That shock is a modern design, floating piston, non-emulsion shock, gas charged, billet aluminum body, screw and locknut preload adjusters, 4 way adjustable for damping.
We have also installed the RaceTech gold valves and springs in the fork, and those have been a perfect complement to the Ikon shocks at the rear on three other recent projects. Will report back on this topic when I have some riding impressions to share.

Either garage is too small or we have too many bikes. Or Momma's car needs to go outside.
